A Collage of Barstow, California, Route 66 Matchcovers

Barstow Matchcovers
These 20-strike front strike Barstow matchcovers are circa 1940-1970.

Main Street in Barstow, California, was Route 66. It's probably obvious how I created this collage. 20-strike matchcovers are approximately 1½" by 4½". I trimmed most of the Barstow matchcover images to just a square front cover that was 1½" by 1½". That is, I cropped the saddle, rear cover and striker from these images. For a few of these Barstow matchcovers I left them complete and full sized. Then I began tiling these individual images together to build this mosaic. So there are about twenty intact matchcover images included but most of what you see are just the front covers. I like all the early telephone numbers.
